FTC Florida News - October 5, 2010

Post by Admin on Wed Oct 06, 2010 10:38 am

Hello Teams,

Topics in this email include:

1. Build-it Day - Saturday, October 9, 2010
2. Qualifying Tournament Registration
3. FIRST Consent and Release Form

------------
1. Build-it Day - Saturday, October 9, 2010

The season's first Build-it day will be on Saturday, October 9, 2010. FTC Team 1902 (Exploding Bacon) and the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) are hosting the Build-it day at the Orange County Extension Education Center in Orlando. The day's activities will include, workshops, lunch, robot building time, and practice time on the Get Over It! playing field. Technical experts will be on-hand to help teams take their robots to the next level. Teams should expect to end the day with a robot that is several steps ahead of where it would have been after a regular team meeting.

Please register if your team is planning on attending so that there is an accurate head-count for lunch. The registration page is located here: www.hcecf.net/robotsaturdays.htm

The Orange County Extension Education Center is located near the Orlando International Airport. The address and web site are as follows:

6021 South Conway Road
Orlando, FL 32812
ocextension.ifas.ufl.edu

The Schedule is as follows:

8:30AM - 9:00AM Registration
9:00AM - 9:15AM Introductions
9:15AM - 10:00AM Team building activity
10:00AM - 11:30AM Introduction to ROBOTC - Get your Bot moving
11:45AM - 12:15PM Lunch
12:15PM - 12:30PM FCS / Samantha, and what to expect at your first competition
12:30PM - 2:45PM Free build on the field and Q&A
2:45PM - 3:00PM Clean up
3:00PM - Go Home

Teams should bring their robot, additional parts, tools, controllers, and a laptop with the latest version of ROBOTC and FCS software already installed.

Don't forget to bring your FIRST Consent and Release form if you are attending Build-it Day. See topic #3 below for additional information.

------------
2. Qualifying Tournament Registration

Qualifying Tournament Registration Round 1 ends Thursday, October 7, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Teams can only register for one tournament in each registration round. Once Round 1 closes, teams that haven't registered for a tournament have lost one opportunity to attend a Qualifying Tournament. If you would like to attend more than one tournament this year, register your team before Round 1 closes.

Registration Round 2 opens for all eight Qualifying Tournaments on Thursday, October 7, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

------------
3. FIRST Consent and Release Form

Students, coaches and mentors attending a Build-it Day, Qualifying Tournament or State Championship are required to turn in a completed Consent and Release form at every event. The form is available for download from the FIRST web site: http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Community/Asset/FIRST_Consent_Release_Form.pdf

As always, feel to send questions to Michael.Coleman@flfirst.org.
