FTC Florida News - October 14, 2010

Post by Admin on Thu Oct 14, 2010 2:05 pm

Hello Teams,

Topics in this email include:

1. Qualifying Tournament Registration Round 3
2. Build-it Day at Middleton High School in Tampa - October 23, 2010
3. Video Judging Submission Deadlines

----------------
1. Qualifying Tournament Registration Round 3

The Florida FTC State Championship is an Invitational Tournament. Teams are invited to attend the State Championship based on their performance at Qualifying Tournaments. The only way to participate in the State Championship is to attend at least one Qualifying Tournament. Teams may attend as many Qualifying Tournaments as they are able to register for using our online registration system. Learn about our registration system and register for a Qualifying Tournament by visiting our web site: www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Qualifying_Tournament_Registration.html

Qualifying Tournament Registration Round 2 ends Saturday, October 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Teams can only register for one tournament in each registration round. Once Round 2 closes, teams that haven't registered for a tournament have lost one opportunity to attend a Qualifying Tournament.

Qualifying Tournament registration round 3 opens Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Teams can register for any tournament with open capacity. I recommend that teams register early. This is especially important for teams that haven't registered for their first tournament. We are quickly approaching the time where some teams will be attending three tournaments and others will attend none or one tournament due to their inaction. Once our tournaments are full, the only remaining option will be to attend an out-of state event.

I encourage teams to consider attending one of the three tournaments in November. Early season tournaments usually have fewer teams, thus, increasing the odds of qualifying for the State Championship. Keep in mind that you should only register for tournaments that you are certain the team can attend. There are serious consequences for no-shows or withdrawing from a tournament.

2. Build-it Day at Middleton High School in Tampa - October 23, 2010

Teams 1369 and 3846 are hosting a Build-it Day at Middleton High School in Tampa from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on October 23, 2010. This Build-it day is a great opportunity to meet teams, practice on a full Get Over It! playing field, and seek help from technical volunteers. Bring your questions, robot, parts, computer, etc. and the volunteers will help you take several giant steps ahead with your robot design, construction and programming.

Additional information will be sent in a separate email.

Middleton High School is located at:
4801 N. 22nd Street
Tampa 33610
