1. Tampa Bay Mini Maker Faire - March 31, 2012

The Tampa Bay Mini Maker Faire is a showcase of regional do-it-yourself (DIY) character and spirit. A Maker Faire is a place where the process of leaning and doing are celebrated; a place to share discoveries, curiosities, inventions, innovations and ideas. FTC teams are invited to share their passion for robotics alongside inventors, artists, foodies, families, futurists, and techies on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the University Area Community Center Complex at 14013 N. 22nd Street in Tampa. There is a $5 entrance fee per person for attendees, but there is no cost to participate. Visit the event web site for additional information: tampabaymakerfaire.com

Send an email to info@learningis4everyone.org for questions or to register your FTC team as a participant.

2. FTC Demonstration at the FIRST LEGO League Invitational Open Championship in Winter Haven - May 4-5, 2012

There will be an FTC Bowled Over! game demonstration at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Invitational Open Championship in Winter Haven. FLL teams representing 28 states, 17 countries, and 5 continents will be participating in a multi-day Food Factor Challenge tournament on May 4th and 5th. This is a terrific opportunity for the FTC program to show the FLL teams the next step-up in the FIRST continuum of robotics programs. The FTC demonstration area and the FLL tournament are held at All Saints Academy in Winter Haven. We would like to have four to six teams staffing the FTC display and playing the Bowled Over! game during the following times:

- Friday, May 4th - 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Mary 5th - 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The FTC demonstration teams are invited to attend the Medal Ceremony and Fiesta Dance Party on Saturday night.

Contact Rich Berglund (FTC 3846, Aionios Tyfonas) ) at volunteersinv@flrobotics.org if you have questions or if your team is interested in participating in this event.

Individuals that are interested in volunteering at the FLL Invitational Open Championship are asked to complete a volunteer pre-registration form: http://form.phishing-site.www/form/20101956437 There are volunteer opportunities for adults and students (Middle School aged and higher). Students and adults that are only taking part in the FTC demonstration don't need to complete the volunteer registration form.

Additional information about the FLL Open Championship is located here: http://www.poly.usf.edu/Offices/ExtendedEducation/Youth-Programs/FLL_Tournament.html

Orlando Mini Maker Faire and Lyman Robotics (FTC 3045 (G.O.O.D. & 4228 B.A.D.) would like to invite you to demonstrate your robots (FRC and FTC) at the 1st Annual Orlando Mini Maker Faire held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando on Saturday May 26, 2012.

There is no cost to register your team and team members will receive free admission to the overall event. Each team will also be given a small number of tickets for guests. To register your team(s) please go to http://www.orlandominimakerfaire.com/makers/

6. Qualifying Tournament Hosts for the 2012-2013 Season

Send an email to Michael Coleman at michael.coleman@flfirst.org if your team is interested in hosting a qualifying tournament during the 2012-2013 season.

Our goal is to have sufficient qualifying tournament capacity so that each team has the opportunity to attend at least two tournaments. To achieve this goal, we need to hold eleven or twelve qualifying tournaments if the number of teams grows by our typical 20%.

Tournament Hosts provide a facility from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening (a Saturday-Sunday tournament is also an option), volunteers, volunteer lunch and snacks, trophies, and a practice field. I provide the competition playing field, electronics, referee shirts, and robot sizing box. I can also provide PA and video systems for some tournaments. I will help with tournament setup and volunteer on tournament day. We also have several awesome volunteers that can fill key roles such as referees, judges, Field Technical Advisors, and robot inspectors.
As a thank you for running a tournament, Tournament Hosts receive an automatic invitation for one team to attend the Florida Championship and priority registration during the first phase of qualifying tournament registration for all of the host's teams.
Please let me know if you are interested in hosting a qualifying tournament. I would like to sign-up most of our tournament hosts prior to schools starting their summer break.

Thanks,

Michael Coleman
