FTC Florida News for Teams - December 19, 2012

Post by Admin on Thu Dec 20, 2012 3:46 pm

Topics in this email include:

1. Mid-Season Survey
2. Mid-Season Video
3. T-Slot Aluminum (80/20) 40% Discount off list prices for FTC teams
4. FTC Demonstration at Lockheed Martin in Orlando

------------
1. Mid-Season Survey
We are conducting a mid-season survey to help assess League Play. Please share the link to the survey with coaches, mentors, students, and volunteers. http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1118871/2012-13-Florida-FTC-Mid-Season-Survey The survey closes on Friday, January 11th.

------------
2. Mid-Season Video
A team created video will be judged and contribute 25% towards each team's state ranking. Judges will use the information contained in the video to score teams in the same ten quality areas that are used at Meets and League Championships. See the Team Guide to League Play for details about video format, content, etc. TheTeam Guide to League Play can be downloaded from this web page: www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/League_Play.html

It is highly recommend that teams submit a test video to the online video collection system before the holiday break so that problems can be identified and solved before the submission deadline. Videos will NOT be accepted after the deadline.

Video Submission Details:
- The video collection system web page is located here: www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/FTC_Video_Collection_System.html
- A team passcode is required to submit the video. Passcodes were emailed to the main and alternate team contacts listed in the FIRST Team Information Management System (TIMS) on Monday, December 3rd. This is the same passcode used by teams to register for Meets and League Championships. The Florida Video Collection System passcode is different from the passwords used to access the FIRST Team Information Management System (TIMS) and the FTC Q&A forum. The representative chosen by the team to register for events needs to obtain the team passcode from the main or alternate team contact listed in TIMS before submitting the video for judging. Contact Michael Coleman at michael.coleman@flfirst.org if you need assistance obtaining your team's passcode.
- The video submission deadline is Tuesday, January 1st at 11:59 p.m. EST. There is a very short (no more than one day) grace period built into the online video collection system. When the grace period ends, the video collection system automatically closes and it will no longer accept videos.
- Links to all of the team videos will be published on the www.flfirst.org web site immediately following the submission deadline. The video search page is located here: www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Registration_System/video_search_form.php

3. T-Slot Aluminum (80/20) 40% Discount off list prices for FTC teams
FTC 4997, Masquerade, arranged for a 40% discount off list price for 80/20 T-Slot aluminum parts purchased from Florida Motion & Control. Contact Brad Bennett at bbennett@flomoco.com to place your order. Include the team's school or sponsor organization (4-H, Girl Scouts, etc.), team name, and team number in your email. A credit card authorization form for Florida Motion & Control is attached.

------------
4. FTC Demonstration at Lockheed Martin in Orlando
Lockheed Martin – Orlando will be holding its annual Engineers Week (E-Week) celebration the week of February 18th – 22nd, 2013. As in the past, LM-Orlando would like to extend an invitation to a group of 10 FTC teams to participate in the E-Week festivities and to showcase their creations and efforts over the 2012-2013 FTC Season. Teams will be asked to bring their robots and participate in demonstration matches on an official Ring It Up! field. Lunch will be provided as well as a tour of some of the LM-Orlando products and simulators manufactured at this site. The date for this event is Wednesday, February 20th from 9AM to 3PM.

For security and staffing reasons, we must limit the number of people per team to a maximum of 5 (at least one mentor and two students please). Further, all adults (18 and over) must be a U.S. citizen or hold a permanent resident card. If your team is interested in participating in this event, please send an email to Javier Rivas at Javier.Rivas@lmco.com for additional information. Again, slots are limited, so please respond promptly. I am looking forward to watching FTC teams drive and fly the Lockheed Martin vehicle simulators, and play the Ring it Up! game one last time before the Florida Championship.

That's all for now.

Take care,
