FIRST Exhibit at the DARPA Robotics Challenge - Homestead Speedway on December 20th & 21st, 2013

Post by Admin on Fri Nov 01, 2013 11:35 pm

Hello Teams,

FIRST will have an exhibit tent at the DARPA Robotics Challenge held at the Homestead Speedway on December 20th & 21st, 2013. FIRST would like to have all of their programs represented in their exhibit and specifically, they would like to have one or two FTC teams each day. The information below my signature line was written by the South Florida FRC Regional Director and it contains additional information about the event.

Teams are welcome to attend both days or just one day. Send an email to michael.coleman@flfirst.org if you would like to represent FIRST at this event.

That's all for now.

Take care,

Our national security is vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters and there are often limitations to what humans can accomplish to help remedy these situations or mitigate further damage. Today’s robotics are helping, but they are not yet robust enough to function in all environments and perform the basic tasks needed to mitigate a crisis situation.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) challenges teams of robotics researchers to develop dexterous mobile robots that can move through and within disaster zones and perform useful tasks, with minimal guidance from remote human operators remaining safely out of harm's way.

In December 2013, tethered physical robots from all qualified teams will compete by attempting eight separate disaster inspired challenge tasks.

This exciting competition will happen in our own backyard - at the Homestead Speedway - and as part of the FIRST family of programs we have been invited to be at the exhibition tent of FIRST.
