FTC Florida News for Teams - November 4, 2013

Post by Admin on Thu Nov 07, 2013 10:39 pm

Hello Teams,

Attachments: None

Topics in this email include:

1. Tournament Registration
2. Judged Team-Created Video for Florida State Ranking
3. Promote and Compass Awards
4. Volunteering at Tournaments

------------
1. Tournament Registration
If your team hasn't registered to attend a Meet tournament, please visit the Florida FTC event registration system today and reserve a competition slot for your team. If you don't know if your team has registered for a tournament, visit this web page and select your team number in the search filter drop-down box to view the events that your team has registered for: http://www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Registration_System/search_form.php

Rookie teams that received the $500 team FIRST grant and teams receiving Rockwell Collins Grants agreed to attend at least one official tournament as a condition of the grant. If your team received either of these grants, please register for a Meet tournament and fully participate on tournament day.

The Florida FTC tournament registration system start page is located here: http://www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Event_Registration.html

------------
2. Judged Team-Created Video for Florida State Ranking
The team-created video is a 25% component of the Florida FTC state ranking system. The submission deadline for this video is December 1, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. There is a 24-hour grace period following the deadline to accommodate the inevitable issues that may occur. No videos will be accepted after the grace period ends. The Florida FTC Video Registration System start page is located here: http://www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Video_Registration_And_Search.html The team password for submitting videos is the same as the password used to register for events. This is not the same password that teams use to manage their record in the FTC Team Information Management System (TIMS) run by FIRST.

See the Team Guide to League Play and the Team Guide to Judging and Awards for complete details. These documents can be downloaded from the Florida FTC website: http://www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/League_Play.html

------------
3. Promote and Compass Awards
The Promote and Compass awards are not given at Meet tournaments and they are optional at League Championships. Leagues will notify teams if they will present the Promote and Compass awards at their League Championship. Teams attending the Florida FTC Championship are eligible to submit videos for the Florida Championship Promote and Compass awards. Teams may submit videos for either or both awards.

The submission deadlines for the Promote and Compass awards are:

- League Championships: December 20, 2013 at 11:59 p.m.
- Florida Championship: January 18, 2014 at 11:59 p.m.

There is a 24-hour grace period following the deadline to accommodate the inevitable issues that may occur. No videos will be accepted after the grace period ends.

Teams that submitted videos for League Championship tournaments don't have to resubmit them if they advance to the Florida Championship.

See the FTC Block Party Game Manual Part 1 for information about the Promote and Compass awards. Ignore the information in the game manual concerning video file format and submission instructions. Upload videos to a public video sharing site like YouTube and submit the link for judging using the Florida FTC Video Registration System: http://www.flfirst.org/Florida_First_Tech_Challenge/Video_Registration_And_Search.html The team password for submitting videos is the same as the password used to register for events. This is not the same password that teams use to manage their record in the FTC Team Information Management System (TIMS) run by FIRST.

4. Volunteering at Tournaments
FIRST has a really great product in the FTC program, but what makes the Florida FTC program so special are the volunteers that are passionate about Florida's FTC program. Many people don't realize that the Florida FTC program is 100% volunteer run and we are always in need of enthusiastic people to help run our FTC program and volunteer at events. If you would like to join the fun and work with some amazing people, signup to volunteer at a Florida FTC event. The signup process is quick and easy. Simply visit the FIRST Volunteer Information Matching System (VIMS): https://my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/Login/VIMS_Login.aspx, create an account if you don't have one and then submit a volunteer role request for an event. The entire process takes about five minutes if you don't already have a VIMS account.

This is a great season to start volunteering because almost every weekend through mid-January we are holding an FTC Block Party! somewhere in Florida. Please encourage your team's sponsors, mentors, parents, and grandparents to volunteer at a tournament. They will be glad that they did.

That's all for now.

Take care,
